What's the difference between Lutron HomeWorks and Caseta?
Scale and permanence. Caseta is a retail line you install yourself, a handful of dimmers on an app, and it's fine for a condo. HomeWorks is a wired, dealer-installed system: the dimming lives in a panel in the mechanical room, hundreds of circuits run off one processor, shades ride the same system, and every keypad is engraved for the room it sits in. HomeWorks also gets commissioned by hand, so the scenes hold their levels for years instead of drifting. If the lighting is being designed with the architecture, HomeWorks is the one.
What does a Lutron dealer add that an electrician can't?
Your electrician pulls the wire and lands the loads, which is exactly their work. A Lutron dealer designs the load schedule before that wire gets pulled, programs the processor, commissions every keypad, and owns the system afterward. Lutron sells whole-home systems only through dealers they train and audit, so we carry the engineering line and the warranty path. Years later the file still lives with us, which is why a keypad relabel is a phone call.
Can I add Lutron motorized shades to a house that's already finished?
Yes. Battery-powered Sivoia shades mount inside the window casing with no wire pulled and no drywall opened, and we tell you the battery life Lutron publishes for the shade you pick. We measure every opening ourselves, because a shade ordered a quarter inch wrong is a shade you look at every day. Where a room has attic or basement access above the window, we'll run power instead and skip the batteries entirely.
Is Ketra lighting worth the cost?
In the rooms you spend real hours in, yes. Ketra fixtures shift color and brightness through the day the way daylight does, and they hold that color for the life of the lamp, so the ceiling still matches years later. It costs several times what a good standard downlight costs. A kitchen, a great room and a primary suite carry Ketra well, with standard warm-dim fixtures everywhere else. That mix reads beautifully and keeps the number sane.
How do Lutron keypads replace a bank of light switches?
The dimming moves out of the wall box and into a panel, so the wall no longer needs one switch per circuit. Five gangs by the back door become a single Palladiom keypad with four engraved buttons: Kitchen, Island, Evening, All Off. One press sets several circuits at once, at the levels we tuned in that room. Guests stop hunting, and the wall next to your tile gets a lot quieter.
